The error "You forgot to include an unsubscribe link" can be displayed when campaign formatting is experiencing conflicts. To resolve it:
Make sure the unsubscribe link is added/try to re-add the footer block and save it. In case you want to add an unsubscribe link manually, find a guide here.
Double-check your variables and make sure the format is correct. Here you can learn more about variables.
Re-save your blocks, and make sure the unsubscribe link color is not blending into the background.
Ensure that you're using the correct syntax for variables, like
{$unsubscribe}in your emails.
Unsubscribe Link in the Header
Please note that if you want to add an Unsubscribe link in the header, there's no feature to do that. It is, however, added automatically by the email client.💡
Header banners are a feature controlled only by email providers, not by MailerLite directly.
Why Test Email Unsubscribe Links Don’t Work
The unsubscribe link in MailerLite is unique to each subscriber. This means it won't work for test emails, as no actual subscribers are associated with the link during the test phase. When sending test emails, no real recipient information is available to generate functional links.
To test an unsubscribe link, follow these steps to send the actual campaign to yourself:
In the campaign recipients, select 'Advanced filters'.
Create the rule: Email > Equals > [Your Email Address].
Send the campaign, and verify the unsubscribe link’s functionality.
For more dedicated testing, you can also create a personalized test group using your own email address(es) and send the campaign to this group. This simulates real subscriber interactions for better testing.
Adjusting Unsubscribe Settings for Immediate Actions
If a subscriber wasn't unsubscribed properly due to issues during the unsubscribe process, you can also adjust your settings to make unsubscribes immediate.
By editing the unsubscribe settings, you can ensure that the user is removed as soon as they reach the unsubscribe page.
